4 Ways to Improve Candidate Care

4 Ways to Improve Candidate Care With the unemployment rate in the UK languishing at around the 4.1% mark the lowest since 1975 candidates continue to be in short supply. And yet, despite Brexit and other market influences, new jobs are being created and need to be filled. Exceptional candidate care will leave a lasting impression, enhance your brand’s reputation and ensure ongoing loyalty and respect. Additionally, you’ll reap the rewards of future candidate referrals, introductions with previously unwilling clients, and new business opportunities. Here are four ways you can freshen up the care of your passive and active job seekers. 1. Manage expectations One of the biggest bugbears candidates have with recruiters is the lack of communication during the hiring process. One of the biggest bugbears of recruiters is that they don’t have enough time to stay on top of their candidate care. The key here is to simply manage your candidates’ expectations. Ensure that every automated/template email to a job application or interview confirmation clearly lays out what they should expect from you and why. At the end of every phone conversation or interview, explain under what circumstances they should expect to hear from you next time. Don’t be afraid to have tough conversations. If a candidate is not right for the role for which they’ve applied, tell them so and provide feedback. Whatever you do, don’t tell them you’ll consider them and never call. 2. Feedback When you place a role, make sure you inform any unsuccessful candidates straight away â€" although rejections are never fun, bad news is better than no news. Take the time to find out why the client didn’t want to proceed and then pass this on in the most constructive way you can. The more candidates know about the interview process, the industries they’re applying for and where their skill gaps are, the higher their chance of ongoing career success. By delivering feedback, you will stand out for taking the time, and for being honest. I guarantee that they will always remember, recommend and thank you for it. 3. Speed In this candidate-led market, active job seekers who apply for multiple roles may find themselves progressing with a number of interviews. When a great CV reaches your desk, it’s imperative you work quickly to introduce them to potential employers. I recommend checking any overnight ad response on your commute into the office and ensure that promising candidates are contacted straight away. Your agility and responsiveness will go a long way toward helping candidates feel nurtured. It’s also worth explaining the current state of the market to clients so that they might improve their interview times if possible. (It will also ensure that their expectations are met when great candidates are snapped up quickly.) 4. Collaborate, don’t control While recruitment consultants are in the unique position of having the ear of both clients and candidates, this doesn’t mean you know best about either party. Therefore, it’s essential you take the time to find out both parties’ motivations, finding out exactly what they are looking for and their expectations. Once this is established, it will be much easier to start working towards that perfect match. Don’t try and cookie-cut a candidate for the commission â€" this will only result in both client and candidate being disappointed, leaving you with a tarnished reputation.

However, while writing a resume can make you appear more appealing to potential employers, it can also bring along potential problems as well. One of the main reasons that your resume doesn't get noticed is because it seems like it has too much information on it and is hard to decipher. One way that a resume can lose its appeal is if it includes a criminal background check or other background check. Having this information on your resume might give you a bad first impression.Another problem with your resume is the formatting of the resume. Many employers make the mistake of only using the standard font, and this makes the resume look too busy and messy. How to Achieve Professional Success as a Freelancer

How to Achieve Professional Success as a Freelancer As traditional as the nine-to-five workday is, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest it may become obsolete in the near future. Indeed, modern technology allows professionals to work remotely, in their homes, and at their own pace. What’s more, many talented individuals are deciding to exit corporate positions entirely in order to focus on freelancing. If that’s a career path you’ve always found intriguing, you’ll want to read this piece before you make any major decisions. Finding success as a freelancer can be tricky, but following these four suggestions will help you on your way: Network Like Crazy It’s always a wise decision to cultivate as many business connections as possible. However, freelancers in particular have to be adept at networking. After all, most freelancers work alone and, as such, they need to develop as many friends across industries as possible. The key to solid networking is all about patience. Stay in contact with your associates over a long period of time if you have to; the effects of sound networking may take years to fully manifest. Provide Examples The only way to establish yourself as a freelancer in your field is to build up trust. Therefore, it’s a smart play to adopt an open-book policy on your personal website or across any digital freelancing platforms you use. Show your work and represent yourself faithfully. Lying to get a gig is a risky maneuver that will almost surely backfire and cost you in the long run. Instead, always shoot straight with your partners and collaborators. Never Stop Learning Most of the time, freelancers are driven, passionate individuals. Considering that freelancers don’t answer to a traditional “boss,” it’s no surprise that many are highly motivated. What’s more, it’s imperative for freelancers to resist the temptation to rest on their laurels. Successful freelancers are always learning something new and exploring possibilities in different industries. You never know what your next assignment may entail, so be willing to read up on a wide array of topics. One day you may have to cover how to operate an ESR instrument, and the next how to mix the perfect smoothie at home â€"â€" such is the life of a freelancer! Stay a Cut Above At the end of the day, freelancers have to utilize their creativity and strive to remain a cut above the competition. No amount of networking, research, and good intentions will make up for inferior production â€"â€" so unless you’re willing to go the extra mile on a consistent basis â€"â€" you’ll struggle to turn a profit while freelancing. The best freelancers combine their skills with their passions. Manage to do that for yourself and you’ll find prosperity in your professional life.

Eagle Eyes Sunglasses - Product Review

Eagle Eyes Sunglasses - Product Review Theres three things I admittedly have too much of.   Jewelry.   Shoes.   And sunglasses.    But each for their own reasons, I can easily justify the presence to too many into being just about right.    That said, when I had the opportunity to review Eagle Eyes Sunglasses, I was probably less than enthusiastic. Then again, keeping mind the number sunglasses broken, scratched, lost, left on the fast food or restroom counter, or that just mysteriously grew legs and walked away, I figured a couple more couldnt possible hurt. The folks at Eagle Eyes Sunglasses were gracious enough to provide three pair for review, and heres my impressions. Arrival and Unboxing Well-thought packaging, and, surprise! more than I expected.   Each pair came with a very nice carry case.   Not the typical junky afterthought, but a statement piece.   So they scored with me before I even got a peek at the sunglasses themselves. The Look While Im a sucker for semi-glitzy or glam styles, Eagle Eyes offers a selection of both classic looks and modern trendy stuff to satisfy me.   The three that I chose were Gemstone I, Halley, and Force, which probably betrays a bit about my eclectic tastes.   The Gemstone I was a bit too square for my facial shape, so in retrospect I probably should have gone with the Gemstone II.   But the Halley and Force were great choices, looked great on, and were something Id have chosen had I been shopping in a brick-and-mortar store. The Fit One the biggest challenges I have with sunglasses is finding a pair that fits right.   So many look awesome, but are not comfortable on the nose or over the ears.   Pleasant surprise with Eagle Eyes theyre some of the most comfortable Ive ever worn, even the Gemstone I pair that I passed on to a friend. Functionality I know I said I buy my sunglasses based on style.   And I admit it, thats my first criteria.    But hey, I just assume if theyre called sunglasses theyre going to do what the name implies.   Which provided another pleasant surprise superior visual clarity and crisp filtering of all the images of life to your eyes. Eagle Eye Sunglasses are a Big YES! If youre needing new sunglasses (who isnt??), Eagle Eyes are definitely worth considering.   Id say they compare very favorably with much more expensive sunglasses, and Ill for sure be returning to their website to buy more.

Smart steps to use the social media to find a job - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

Smart steps to use the social media to find a job Successfully applying for vacancies in advertisements can be challenging when we are one of many applicants. We face hectic competition without knowing anything about the other candidates applying. Some employers only want answers to specific questions, or ask us to complete a form. If only we could reach out to them directly on social media so we could tell them more about us. Well we could by following the right protocols. Reaching this point is a two-part process. First we align our social media profiles to match the type of job we want. Then we track the decision makers down on social media and make sure they notice us when we apply. Step 1: Professionalize Your Social Media Profiles Make a compelling life story out of your qualifications and career. Don’t clog this with fluffy details. You want them to read it through before they burn their attention span. LinkedIn is the right place to start. However, Facebook, Google+ and Twitter also have cool spots to illustrate your value to employers. Don’t be the wallflower at the party. Move around the virtual room and network, network, network. Join interest groups on Facebook and start chatting with employers in your industry. LinkedIn has a cool search page to find interest groups relating to your sphere of interest. Be alive. Post original, engaging stuff there at least once a week. Follow companies in your profession on Twitter and LinkedIn. They may not know that you exist but could be looking for someone just like you. Subscribe to their feeds about business development. Study the profiles of their latest hires. If there’s a match join their conversations. Somebody somewhere will be interested in knowing more about you. Become a sought-after resource by re-defining your media profiles. You want to dovetail with the values of the companies you ache to work for. Become the helpful person they would love employing, by adding value while commenting on their posts. You can accumulate a pile of social capital by providing valuable links on Facebook and Twitter. Trawl your interest groups on LinkedIn. Jump at opportunities to answer questions and share concerns. Asking for Work Is Out of Bounds. Aim to stay high in people’s minds looking for somebody like you. However you could trash your caring social media profile if you ask for something for yourself. Concentrate on being the smart, intelligent candidate you know you are instead. Imagine you are rooting for a promotion where you work. Tweet thoughts that bring out the person you know you really are. Step 2: Now Go Out There and Land the Job You should be well ahead at this point because you know more about potential employers than most other people in your industry. Leave the social media for a moment to research the companies on your shortlist. Investigate the Companies Worth Hiring You Let’s pause for a moment at this hugely important point. No employer will change to suit you, although over time you may tweak their thinking. Therefore focus your attention in places where you will be comfortable in the culture. If they have a Wikipedia page that’s great start because a team of editors makes sure what they say is true. You could score highly by referring to an employer’s history and financial performance when they ask you why you want the job. Visit their website next to discover the public face they show their customers. It doesn’t matter if you only find two or three companies worthy of employing you. In fact, this should sharpen your aim and you can snipe with more precision. Figure Out Who the Decision Makers Are Dig deep down into company data to discover relevant names in their recruitment structures, Trawl through their job posts, blog articles, and social pages. If you persist, you are sure to find names and perhaps more. Create mini profiles of these people, including photos so you feel you know them better. Now link to their social media pages and start chatting with them informally. Don’t ever tell them you are looking for a job because that’s a sign of weakness. Recruiters are curious people. They will visit your pages if they find you interesting. This chapter is a ‘never-ending story’. You may not be that important yet for them to follow you. Therefore you have to keep popping up with a friendly face and genuinely useful, valuable insights. Now Trawl for Jobs You Desire on Social Media Maya Angelou was an American poet, singer and social activist who made huge waves in her sphere. She famously said “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style”. I don’t just want you to land any old job on social media and favourite me because my method works. I want to help you find a job at a market-related salary you desire with all your heart. When that passion shines, you make it easier to reach the first interview. If the passion stays with you, you could make it to the job. So here’s what you have to do, Put your job searches aside on Simply Hired, CareerBuilder, Monster, Indeed, and the rest of them. They are great sites but they flood you with so many possibilities you burn yourself out and it shows in your proposals. Instead I want you to comb through company Twitter feeds, Facebook pages, and Linked-In groups on your short list. You will find quality jobs there, I guarantee that. Moreover these should relate to your career interests, and you will have less competition than on job boards. This means you have a far better chance of standing out and being noticed. You also have a better chance of getting to an interview. When you reach that point you have the advantage of career oriented social media pages that prove you really are worth considering. Genuine employers are after people they can see are truly interested in what they do.

Are you prepared to make adjustments to your career path - Hallie Crawford

Are you prepared to make adjustments to your career path I wanted to share this Pew report with you, Young, Underemployed and Optimistic. It has some great job stats for people of all ages. Here are a couple of points that I wanted to pull out and highlight Most of us believe that young adults are having the toughest time of any age group in today’s economyâ€"and a lopsided majority says it’s more difficult for today’s young adults than it was for their parents’ generation to pay for college, find a job, buy a home or save for the future. I do believe this is accurate, and it  doesnt  mean they have to give up on their dream job. It just means the plan may need to be adjusted. Or the path to get there looks different than it used to. More people are probably taking jobs they dont really enjoy just because they need to be financially stable. I honestly dont think this is any different from the past. College grads in years past have done the same thing. They need to take care of themselves, so they take what they can get. The key is to realize that this job is a stepping stone towards something better long-term. You have to have a plan for transitioning out of it when its time to make the leap. Its about making a plan in the first place, and then adjusting it as needed to the times and whats required based on that, whether its your living situation or the economy. Theres no point in living in the past and being frustrated that today cant be different. Look at how things are now and how you can tackle those challenges. If you need to wait an extra year to get married to save money, or stay in that job you dont like an extra 6 months, then that may be what you need to do. I stayed in my bridge job an extra 8 months beyond what I felt I could handle because I would be vested in my retirement if I did so. Although it can be seen as disappointing that young adults have to adjust, we all have had to do this to a certain extent at one time or another in our lives. Just be smart about it and dont give up on the ideal career for the long run. Job Coach P.S.  Are you in the ideal career for you?  Find out if you’re in the right career with our  Ideal Career Quiz.
